CITIES: Immoral is never OK

| June 28, 2013 9:08 PM

History always repeats itself. Since the beginning of time, immorality has become the downfall of many nations. Two travelers arrived into a city at night where a leading citizen greeted them. Knowing the wickedness of his city, the citizen encouraged the two men to stay that evening at his house where they could freshen up, have a meal, get a good night’s sleep and be on their way early in the morning.

At first the men declined the offer insisting they would just spend the night in the town square; however, the citizen would not relent until the men agreed to his offer. Before bedtime, all the men of the city, both young and old, trooped to this man’s house, banged on his door, and demanded that the visitors be handed over to them so that they could have sex with them. The citizen tried to reason with them, “You can’t do this, it’s not right, these are my guest under the protection of my house.” Even the offer of young women to satisfy these men’s’ lust for fresh flesh did not dissuade the riot at his door. Many of you know this story of Lot, who alone with his wife and two daughters survived the destruction of his city.

Elected officials, you were voted into office to be a voice of the people, not to tell people what to voice. As a democratic governing body, your job is to hear the heart of the people and to lead accordingly. Stamp out immorality, don’t promote it. Get to the heart of the matter of homosexuality instead of building law and structure around it to try to make it appear moral, when it is immorality that is at the heart. Calling immorality moral doesn’t make it moral.

If it’s on the Internet, if it’s in the newspapers, if it’s said often enough the population begins to believe that what they have heard and read is the truth.

The children’s story The Emperor’s New Clothes is an example of this foolishness. No matter how the tailor wove his description of the new royal dress, no matter how many advisers told him how beautiful his new clothes were, no matter how many of the acquiescing crowd “oohed and aahed” as the emperor proudly passed by in parade dressed in his fine new panoply; it took a child to speak the truth, “He’s naked!” No flowery rhetoric, no compliments couched in compliance, no law passed demanding divergence from common sense or prudence could cover the shame the emperor felt when his royal derrière was exposed in the truth of that childish statement: “He’s naked!” The truth is always the truth, no matter what marketing, political posturing or lobbying does to manipulate the status-quo into believing whatever new lie is being sold as “truth.”

All immorality, including homosexuality, has an appetite that cannot be satisfied. Just as in the opening narrative, the men of Sodom were not content with the men of their town, they wanted the visitors too. What kind of message is the City Council sending to those who visit Coeur d’Alene? The homosexual movement will not be content with a closet, a city, a state or a nation; it is a worldwide goal that is in its mind-set. How is it that Americans are outraged with the immorality of sex trafficking and pedophilia and yet give credence to other forms of sexual immorality? Worse than this, city officials are trying to force every citizen to embrace the immoral practices of one group and they are allowing this group to parade their lifestyle as poor victims of human intolerance.

Finally, the council will force, by punishment or fine, the very citizens of common sense who see the naked truth and say, “This isn’t right!” Don’t let the downfall of our city come at the expense of failing to learn from the ruin of other immoral societies. History will tell if we have chosen common sense and prudence or have given into the false harangue of the human rights advocates. Don’t give our cities away!
