COLUMN: Wrong about addiction

This letter is in response to Ron Vieselmeyer’s “My Turn” column published May 15, 2013.

Gay sex addicts are not compulsively sexual because of being gay. Gay sex addicts are sexual addicts as a result of their individual psychological issues and/or addiction predispositions. As well, straight sex addicts are not compulsively sexual because of being straight. Straight sex addicts are sexual addicts as a result of their individual psychological issues and/or addiction predispositions. Therefore, a person’s sexual addiction has absolutely no connection to a person’s sexual orientation whether that orientation be chosen or not chosen. The way in which Mr. Vieselmeyer’s letter linked addiction and sexual orientation is academically and intellectually incorrect.
