PROJECTS: Bottom line is the taxpayer

| June 5, 2013 9:00 PM

I wish Mr. Kent Setty had read all of my letter of May 22. He chastised me in his May 26 letter for “being misinformed about the way our government is organized,” saying the seven multi-million dollar projects that I listed are “not all the city’s responsibility.” Well, of course not! Mr. Setty overlooked the part where I said “Whether they be for City, County, or NIC…they will be a terrific financial burden.”

The legacies I attribute to the mayor as “stunningly beautiful” (and super additions to our community) are the Kroc Center and the library. And both cost the city taxpayers money.

Mr. Setty says “the city can handle both” the sewage treatment plant and McEuen Park. Actually, it is the city taxpayers who will have to bear those two financial burdens, not the “city.”

The city taxpayers also have to pay taxes for the county, NIC, hospital, schools — and the other five multi-million dollar projects I listed.

McEuen Park is a beautiful dream, but should not have been as high a priority as the other projects.
