COUNCIL: This is just the beginning
Once again our elected officials have engaged us in an argument that is put forth to mask the true issue.
Man can not be the final arbiter of his own best self. Man must perceive, acknowledge, and as such apply, a moral order derived from an outside authority; God is the most readily available outside authority. Thus it is God’s place in our civilization to maintain the moral order.
Man can not be the final arbiter of his own best self. Because he is man; and once man becomes the arbiter of his own best self his very next act is to become, through governmental action, the final arbiter of society’s best self thus supplanting God’s role in civilization and melding church (moral order) and state (civil order).
Is it not fascinating that all the while as our public servants were clamoring for separation of church and state they were usurping the role of church for themselves?
This ordinance will pass with many more like it to follow. Pressure will be steadily applied. The State Legislature will enact anti discrimination legislation specifically naming homosexuals. The State will ultimately be obliged to issue marriage licenses. The goal is not homosexual marriage; for what is it that the homosexual community will receive?
They will receive government permission to get married. Government permission to get married subsequent to government determination of acceptable moral behavior. They will talk among themselves gleefully and they will speak of their new freedom. Government morality and government permission become “freedom.”
Deftly played. Very deftly played.
