CENTER: Why it's a worry

| July 28, 2013 9:00 PM

The Event Center proposal is now a personal dispute between Mr. Stone and Mr. Hagadone, who is perceived to be against it. Both men have invested personally in our fair city.

The question is not “Who loves Cd’A more?” but rather, “Can we, the taxpayers of Cd’A, risk being on the hook in this battle of the wills if this project becomes the black hole which we rightly fear?”

I live in Riverstone. I see the traffic nightmare coming with the Event Center project.

I am a taxpayer. I see rate increases coming as well. We are asked to have faith in the mantra. . . “Build it and they will come.”

Where is the actual need for such a facility when we are so close to Spokane and the casinos?

Remember, Riverstone was touted as being just what the city needed to enter the big leagues.

It too went broke and sold for pennies on the dollar. We lost big retailers, the city was embarrassed financially and the lawsuits naturally followed.

Do we want to support a potential “black hole” until we can find a buyer who will part with pennies to buy our Event Center?
