Mary J. (Battlo) Green, 78
Mary Green, 78, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Kootenai Health on July 21, 2013.
Mary was born in Kimball, W.Va., on Jan. 6, 1935, to Fortunato and Concetta Battlo. She joined the family as the seventh of the eight children they would have: Frank, Angeline (Footo), Dominick, Kat (Price), Melly (Woolwine), Tony, Mary and Jean. She graduated from Welch High School in 1953 and attended Little French’s Beauty Academy in Bluefield, W.Va. Upon graduating, she joined her sister, Melly, in operating “The Beauty Bar” in Kimball.
While vacationing at Virginia Beach, Va., in the summer of 1958, she met the love of her life, Winfred (Windy) Green, a sailor from the Naval Air Station, Oceana. They married in Kimball on Oct. 24, 1959, and added four beautiful daughters to the family: Winifred Anne (Wendy) (Valadon-Pillay), Christina (Tina), Julia and Linda.
Mary and her family resided in Kimball until 1980, when she and Windy moved their family to Coeur d’Alene. She retired and became a full-time mother and part-time child caregiver while enjoying her hobby of gardening.
Upon Windy’s retirement, they decided to do some traveling, and began welcoming the grandchildren into their lives: Zach, David, Kramer, Julia, Brandon, Adam and Heath. Two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Camden, soon followed.
Mary has now been reunited with her parents; her brothers, Frank, Dominick and Tony; her sisters, Angeline and Melly; and her daughter, Wendy.
At Mary’s request, no formal services will be held. Informal celebrations of her life will occur at a later date in both Idaho and West Virginia. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
