MAIL: Signed, sealed undelivered

| July 26, 2013 9:01 PM

It wasn’t broke but they fixed it anyway. That’s what happened to the Postal Service. What made Congress think that bureaucrats would do a better job than locally elected postmasters were doing? The U.S. Mail has become a joke; pretty much with no consideration for service to the public, whose mail they are supposed to deliver in a timely manner.

Example: It can take as much as four days for a local letter to be delivered to an address across the street; or a post office box in the same post office in which it was mailed. Long weekends account for some of the delay, but hauling the mail many miles to be counted and canceled at regional centers is dumb.

A few years ago the bureaucrats were considering closing the Spokane processing center and sending the mail to Seattle. Didn’t happen, but it looks like Spokane and other regional centers got a message. Over time, local mail slots have been closed. All mail in this region is sent to Spokane to be “handled.” Also, on Saturdays, our local post office is open for business \ hour. The staff is there about three hours. By order of Spokane, the business office is locked and the mail scanner is turned off. Packages cannot be delivered even though the staff could easily handle them if the scanner was left on until the staff actually left the office. This is disgusting.
