Douglas Robert Barteau, 76
July 12, 1937 – July 16, 2013
This was no ordinary man. His obituary, therefore, will be slightly out of the ordinary. Although not born in San Francisco, he arrived there when he was a baby and considered it home. He also loved the Coeur d’Alene area. Douglas beat all the odds for living as long as he did. Not so much because he wanted to make certain milestones but because he loved life. Almost to the end he challenged people to succeed and to explain why s/he was doing or saying what they were. I would not be the woman I am today if I had not met him. He had a brilliant and a constantly curious mind. He was never afraid to try something new; life was an adventure. He read voraciously. Through the sharing of his beliefs, he positively affected many people’s lives. His legacy will continue on through those friends and, of course, his family. On July 16, 2013, in the Hospice House, Paradise, Calif., my lovely husband of 46 years passed from this world. He is survived by his wife, five children and 12 grandchildren. All of us are sure that God is being bombarded with questions.
