LETTER: Latest laughs from Dems

| July 17, 2013 9:21 PM

Just when I thought that the Democrats had run out of comedians along comes Edward Lockwood with his hilarious July 16 letter taking issue with a Press editorial. Let’s get on with it and take his letter paragraph by paragraph.

P1 This is just an intro.

P2 I know of no Republican intrusions into bedrooms. If he’s referring to same sex marriage that’s quite a stretch. Of course that’s typical Dem spin intended to cast Republicans in the worst possible light. Our objection is to the marriage long before the bedroom enters into it but that doesn’t sound quite so bad, does it? As to entering into the doctor’s office he talks of the woman and her doctor but totally ignores the third party in the room — the unborn child. Who’s considering and who’s ignoring individual rights here?

P3 Privatizing prisons is a subject long discussed by more than Republicans. Again, a Dem demonizing the other party with no justification whatsoever. Privatizing fighting our wars? Now there’s a belly-laugh for you. Educating our children? The thrust here is to allow parental choice. The Dems, of course, hate anything not government controlled. No Republican I know would throw out public schools (though that could be a valid debate). Has he checked lately on the relative performance of children in public and private schools? And what kind are Obama’s children attending?

P4 I am at a loss to understand what he’s saying here. It contains some falsehoods like “anything federal is vilified.”

P5 A lesson on how the government functions (or is supposed to) is required. Congress is responsible for making laws. The executive branch is responsible for enforcing them. (Hard to reconcile with the current administration.) Clinton was blessed with a Republican Congress even as George Bush was cursed with one controlled by Democrats.

P6 Again a confusing presentation. Reads like perhaps 10 percent of a much bigger story. We could argue the benefits of Medicaid all day. Dems love it primarily because it is one more example of government control. Republicans take a much more critical view of it. That’s a far cry from denying aid to working families.

P7 Finally his closing salute to the Dems (as primarily exemplified by the current dictatorial administration).
