JOBS: Legal, but not ethical
I see the new Senate immigration bill is a giant nod to big business. It’s about bringing cheap labor to America. I guess it’s gotten dicey exporting American jobs to those messy third world countries. So, let’s bring the cheap labor here. We’ve got plenty of jobs to go around, right?
Oh, I know Americans don’t pick no crops, they don’t do no dirty work. Of course, if the pay was decent that story would turn around, but don’t bother your head about that. The word is we won’t work hard so the government has got to help employers out.
But what about those nice technology jobs that we’re recruiting foreign workers to do? I know my kids and grandkids are hoping for a few of those jobs. I’m betting our returning service men and women are hoping to get some of those jobs too. But, gosh, will they work cheap enough for the bloated CEOs who are running the corporate stores? I’m betting a glut of hungry new immigrants will sure help to keep wages down.
I’m all for legal immigration. What I don’t like is another kick in the teeth to our work force.
