Fall chinook season to be considered
Based on a strong fall chinook run forecast, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will present a proposed fall chinook fishing season to the IDFG Commission next week.
Fishery managers propose chinook salmon fishing seasons on parts of the Snake, Clearwater and Salmon rivers that would open Sept. 1.
From the Washington-Idaho border upstream to Cliff Mountain Rapids, a little less than a mile downstream of Hells Canyon Dam, the season would remain open until further notice or Oct. 31, whichever comes first.
From Cliff Mountain Rapids upstream to Hells Canyon Dam the season would remain open until further notice or Nov. 17, whichever comes first.
Commissioners will meet Wednesday and Thursday in Pocatello.
Fishing, boating access guide available
Looking for new places to go fishing? An updated Idaho Fishing and Boating Access Guide with a list of access sites is now available.
The print version is available at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game offices around the state. And an online interactive map can found in the Fishing Planner on the IDFG website: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ifwis/fishingplanner/access/index.html.
The guide includes regional maps of fishing and boating access sites. It lists alphabetically access locations owned or managed by IDFG. Listings include available amenities and special access features such as boat ramps, docks, restrooms, camping and ADA fishing access.
Ask Fish and Game: General season tags
Q. I'm a resident, and I didn't draw in any controlled hunt. When can I pick up a general season tag?
A. The elk, deer and pronghorn controlled hunt drawings are done and resident tags are available now. The number of resident general deer tags is unlimited, and most general elk tags are unlimited. Resident tags for elk zones subject to a quota go on sale Wednesday. For a list of resident quota elk tags available go to http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/licenses/?getPage=76. For nonresident tags, go to http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/licenses/?getPage=75. Hunters also have a second chance at leftover and unclaimed controlled hunt tags. The application period is from Aug. 5-15 for the second drawing on Aug. 20.
