LCSC: Don't forget Dr. Hammond
I enjoyed Marc Stewart’s recent article in the Press entitled “LCSC Marks 30 Years.” I was, however, very surprised that the article failed to mention the very important role played by Dr. Cyndie Hammond in the growth and visibility of LCSC in North Idaho.
For a period of more than eight years, Dr. Hammond represented LCSC in North Idaho. During that time, the College enrollment and presence in our area expanded and the College established impressive partnerships with other educational institutions and educators.
Dr. Hammond greatly expanded the visibility of LCSC in North Idaho personally attending, as a representative of the College, all major community events and involving herself in Chambers of Commerce, and community organizations. She worked directly with business and community leaders to understand the skills that employers in North Idaho are seeking in new graduates and to develop opportunities for LCSC graduates.
We are blessed to have a range of secondary education options for our students who can dual track college courses while in high school, take a wide range of courses at NIC and secure a college degree from one of several colleges and universities without leaving North Idaho. During her tenure representing LCSC in North Idaho, Dr. Hammond worked to develop and expand these options, and her role with LCSC should have been noted in Mr. Stewart’s article.
