Richard J. McDonald, 72

| February 1, 2013 8:00 PM

Richard J. McDonald, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 28, 2013, in Coeur d'Alene. Richard was born on Oct. 5, 1940, to William and Jean (Light) McDonald in Balboa Island, Calif.

Richard grew up and lived most of his life in California until 1991 when the family relocated to the Northwest — where he and his wife, Marilynn, have happily remained since.

Richard was a veteran who proudly served in Vietnam as 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army until 1968.

He was a devoted husband, supportive father and always considered family to be so precious. He was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and was always giving to others in need — whether that be volunteering at the soup kitchen or helping collect food for the homeless.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marilynn; his sons, Kevin, Craig and Erin; his daughter, Megan; along with their spouses, Jill, Crissy and Lee; his grandchildren, Kyle, Melissa, Madison, Victoria, Dominic, Keller and Kael; his brothers, Bob and Brad; and his faithful furry companion, Duffy.

A Mass service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at St. Pius X Church. All friends and family are welcome to attend to celebrate Richard's life. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835. Please visit Richard’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
