ACA: Its time has finally come

| December 20, 2013 8:00 PM

We know that some of the readers of this paper have mixed feelings about the Affordable Care Act, but following the old adage of making lemons out of lemonade, let’s consider what the Medicaid Redesign portion of the program can do for Idaho.

1. It will provide health-care coverage for thousands of working Idahoans and their families. These are primarily people whose jobs do not provide health care. They may be holding down two part-time jobs or not getting full time on one job.

2. Expanding Medicaid to cover this group will save the state of Idaho millions of dollars as provisions of the ACA will cover them from federal monies.

3. Eliminate the county and state programs that attempt to cover these folks at an inefficient and terribly high price to us, the taxpayers.

Let your legislators know that it is our moral and fiscal responsibility to our fellow Idahoans to see that this program is implemented in the 2014 legislative session.
