| August 20, 2013 5:31 PM

Albert J. “Bert” Anderson, 78, of Hayden, left home for heaven on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013. Bert was born April 25, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., the second son of Alf and Julia (Hogan) Anderson.

Bert was raised in Chicago where he attended Illinois Institute of Technology. On Nov. 30, 1957, Bert married Judith A. Arensdorf in Mundelein, Ill. Bert and Judy moved to California in 1959 where Bert’s first career of many years was as a carpenter installing acoustical ceilings in commercial buildings around the San Francisco bay area. The family moved to Orofino in 1984 where Bert began his second (and favorite) career with the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Department, retiring after 14 years.

Bert loved hunting, fishing, camping and generally spending time outdoors. Bert also loved cross stitching pictures of wildlife. He would pray for a scripture to include for the person who would be receiving the cross stitch. One of the pictures he completed was of a wolf for the Fremont Police and included the scripture Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath” which is now on display in their dispatch center.

Bert and Judy moved to Hayden in 2004. Bert was a member of the Gateway Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Bert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy of Hayden; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Allan George of Fremont, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Gabi Anderson of Athol; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Darren Correia of Dalton Gardens; son Ben of Honolulu, Hawaii; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Karen Anderson; grandchildren, Danielle (and Al) Mack, Jennifer Correia, Jordan Correia, Rachel Anderson and Ramie Anderson; and numerous nephews and nieces. Bert was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Rebekah Anderson.

A going home celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the Gateway Church, 1165 W. Ironwood Drive, Coeur d’Alene. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gateway mission fund in Bert’s name (www.thegatewayintl.org).
