CDA: Design just doesn't fit

I am very disappointed in the design for the pedestrian entrance to McEuen Park. It looks like it belongs in Los Angeles, not in the great Northwest. Where is the celebration of the western heritage? No wood, no green, no animals. Just concrete, steel and colored electric lights. It looks more like the entrance to the county fair.
How does this represent anything about Coeur d’Alene? With the kind of reasoning that went into choosing this abomination, I shudder to think about what other designs the citizens committee are going to come up with.
