Charlene Margaret Veek, 48

| August 8, 2013 9:00 PM

Charlene Margaret Veek was born April 13, 1965, in Spokane to Don and Janice Baslington. Charlene went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at 5 p.m.

Charlene was a resident of Sunriver, Ore., and she is survived by her two children, Justin and Chealsy Veek of Bend, Ore.; her mother and stepfather, Jan and Jess McFarland of Bay City, Ore.; her brother and sister-in-law, Jamie and Sue Ryen; and nephew and niece, Caleb and Kaylie Ryen of Tillamook, Ore. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Margaret Evarts and her aunt, Carol Gift of Hauser Lake. Also, her paternal grandmother, Deliva Baslington and aunt Donna Pahl of Athol; as well as many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Don Baslington and her adopted father, Wayne Ryen.

Charlene spent her childhood at Hayden Lake where she loved to camp and swim on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. Her family moved to the Oregon Coast when she was a teen, and she attended Neah Kah-nie High School. She loved horseback riding and hanging out with her friends. She also loved the outdoors, especially the splendor of Montana where she lived for some time before returning to the Bend/Sunriver area where she enjoyed hiking at places like Fall River, and most of all, being with her children. Charlene was someone who always put others first, and her courage in the fight against cancer was amazing. To all of us who know and love her — she is a hero.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at The Door Church, 56870 Venture Lane, Sunriver.
