NATION: Why chaos is near

I would like respond to Bob Hollingsworth’s “My Turn” opinion. Although I am in full agreement with the first paragraph of your letter, I have issues with the rest.

This nation is indeed falling into poverty and chaos, but to blame President Obama is simply, well simple. When Mitch McConnell and 13 others gathered on inauguration day in January 2009, it was with one purpose: to make President Obama a one-term president. It was to obstruct progress and reconstruction of the financial mess that he inherited from the biggest spender in our nation’s history.

The do-nothing 112th and 113th congresses have blocked every jobs bill, bank reform bill, unemployment benefit extension, campaign disclosure bill, bill ending tax breaks to businesses sending jobs offshore, bill to raise oil spill liability cap, Wall Street Reform bill, medical help for 9/11 responders, small business lending bill, Dems’ effort to pass mine safety bill, campaign disclosure bill, violence against women act, and 37 attempts, with more to come, to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which, by the way, is an insurance reform act that was ratified by the SCOTUS.

Republicans have tried every dirty trick in the book to suppress votes and keep people sick and impoverished. Better to control an ignorant, hungry, ill populace than to attempt to actually represent the majority.

It’s all pure spite and this country will suffer for their democratic vote. Autocracy, or should I say Corporatocracy, is alive and flourishing as long as we allow the brainwashing by Fox and corporations to continue.
