ADIOS: Writer bids Cd'A farewell

| April 28, 2013 9:00 PM

Goodbye, Coeur d’Alene. The most imperfectly perfect place I’ve ever lived. Twenty years have gone by in a flash. I’m moving on knowing what home is supposed to feel like.

This is a beautiful area with beautiful people. There is no better place to raise kids. I’m so grateful for the life I’ve had here.

Please do a couple of things for me as I head out the door. Please protect the lake. The less horsepower, the better. The lake is our connection to nature, to whatever spirituality we embrace. Peace, tranquility, serenity and beauty are what the lake should be about.

Please vote Sandi, Deanna, Woody and Mike out of office. Their plan, on top of everything else, is no parking, no through street, and no boat launch this summer. These four people have lived here all their lives yet act as if they have never lived here at all.

And please embrace the rich diversity of cultures and ideas that we share with 6 billion fellow humans on the planet by voting the school board out of office. A doctor’s creed is “do no harm.” Their creed seems to be “do no good.” Ann, Brent, Duncan, Linda and all the rest are in serious need of a hobby. Their 15 minutes is up.

And my time here is up. I’m truly blessed to have found Coeur d’Alene. For a lily white community, it’s pretty cool. I’ve had fun. To those I’ve ticked off, I’m sorry. To those I haven’t, it’s been nice knowing you. God speed. Boston strong.
