TREES: Arbor Day disgust

This letter addresses the story at the top of page A6 in the April 22 Press which reads, “City honored for commitment to trees.”

It appears the Arbor Day Foundation has for the 29th straight year awarded Coeur d’Alene the title of Tree City USA. Well, I wonder if the Arbor Day Foundation is aware of what our fine leaders did to the Freedom Tree? The article stated the award was given for “Environmental improvement and a higher level of tree care.” What a joke!

If a tree, no matter how important it is, gets in the way of the “money pit” near the library — you know the one — it gets cut down! Wow, what’s next? Obama getting an award for promoting freedom and gun rights?

Shame on the leadership of Coeur d’Alene and shame on the Arbor Day Foundation for not doing its homework before handing out awards.
