TRAGEDY: Watch for warning signs
Some issues never get resolved until that issue happens to some one of prominence. I do not wish that on any of our Congress people, but what will it take for better gun control to go into effect?
However, even if Congress had passed something, the issue with Sandy Hook Elementary School was one of a young man getting hold of his mother’s guns. This young man did not go out and secure guns on his own — he had them available to him.
So, how do we control that issue? Do we say that anyone purchasing a firearm must go through a check AND so MUST his/her whole family? Is that the way we find out if someone is unstable?
How do we get the parents of the unstable children to take more responsibility for their children? With all these situations, including the Boston Marathon, the handwriting was on the wall, but NO ONE saw it or paid attention to it or reported it. Only after the fact were the issues brought to light.
As a nation we can NO longer put our heads in the sand when we see something that we don’t want to DEAL with — we no longer have that option. We all have the responsibility to report unusual actions or question changes in people we know and love. If we don’t, then we are just as guilty as they are for what may occur.
I have yet to hear or read about someone who did NOT show signs or issues who committed one of these horrible actions. Open your eyes and pay attention to your children, friends, the people around you. If something doesn’t seem right, THEN IT’S NOT! Don’t be afraid to get involved or question and if you can’t get involved or question, then let someone else know who can and is willing to get involved. That could be a counselor, minister, school principal, police person. DO SOMETHING. This unnecessary violence has to stop.
