FALLEN: Ceremony honors Idaho dead
Last Saturday, at the Human rights center, the North Idaho Central Labor Council held their workers memorial ceremony. I wish to thank all those who attended the ceremony. I especially wish to thank Rep. Luke Malek for reading the Proclamation from Gov. Otter proclaiming April 28 workers memorial day in the state of Idaho.
I also wish to thank Father Roger LaChance for saying the benediction at the ceremony. Also would like to thank Mayor Sandi Bloom for reading her proclamation from the city of Coeur d’Alene. We had other proclamations that were received from other cities that were read, but the representatives from the prospective cities could not attend the ceremony. I would especially like to thank USMC Sgt. Lawerence Hurtado for reading the names of the servicemen and women who were killed while serving in our armed forces from the state of Idaho.
This year we lost four lives in the state and five service personnel, which was down from the last couple of years. Hopefully one day we can come together and rejoice that there would be no fatalities in the state.
This ceremony is a solemn ceremony were we read the names of all those who have lost their lives either from injury on the job or illness from their job, from Idaho. The names are of the workers, be they union or non-union, all workers in the sight of God. Also after the ceremony, the public were asked to view the memorial that the North Idaho Central Labor council would like to build and donate to the city of Coeur d’Alene. I wish to invite those who would like to honor the fallen to come to the ceremony next year.
Like Mother Jones said: “Mourn for the dead but fight like hell for the living.”
