William Ley Martin, 85

William Ley Martin, 85, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 3, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William McKinley and Dorothy Crystal (Collins) Martin. He is survived by his only sister, Pauline (Albert) Schlepp; nieces, Kathy (Tom) Turtle, Donna Chinneck, Michelle (Dave) Newton, Nephews Steven (Pam) Schlepp and Ronald Schlepp; eight great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.

William was born Feb. 11, 1928, on the family farm near Clarence, Mo. His first 10 years were spent on the family farm. The family moved to Chelan, Wash., in the late ’30s and then on to Coeur d’Alene where Bill graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School. While in high school he worked at the Wilma Theater. He also worked for Montgomery Ward in downtown Coeur d’Alene. In the early ’50s, the family moved to their farm in Hayden and lived there until 2003. Bill then moved to his new home in Post Falls.

Bill started with Idaho First National Bank in 1949 in Coeur d’Alene. He then went to work for Old National Bank for many years, retiring from US Bank in 1991.

Bill enjoyed his retirement by traveling to every state except Alaska.

Bill spent much of his time playing his piano and organ. Many memories are of Christmas’ that he would play many of the family’s favorite Christmas carols around the piano. He also had a love for gardening in his many green houses and thousands of flowers. He was a loving and caring person always taking care of everyone. His sense of humor and smile will be deeply missed. Our uncle was the love of our life. We will miss his quick smile, good nature and family times. He will forever be in our hearts and always with us.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Following the graveside service there will be a remembrance open house held at Bill’s home, 1082 N.
