Sally Kober, 77
Sally Kober, loving wife of Fred Kober, passed away at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene on March 29, 2013, after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis and metastasized liver cancer.
Sally was born in Waterloo, N.Y., on Sept. 17, 1935.
She met Fred in Glendale, Calif., in 1954, married in 1955 and had three children. In 1978, they moved to Hayden Lake. Sally volunteered at NIBCA and Hayden Lake Chamber of Commerce. She served many years as president and/or treasurer of Self Help for the Hard of Hearing (SHHH), as being hard of hearing herself, it was a cause she found significant.
At Halloween Sally was a fixture on her block in Glendale and in Hayden Lake (18 years on Eastshore Drive), greeting Trick or Treaters in the role of a friendly “Witch” stirring her cauldron of brew on the front porch.
Only in Hayden Lake, when the children made their way through the spookily-decorated front yard with eerie music playing, did the Trick or Treaters offer live creepy crawlers for the “Witches brew.”
She always good naturedly reached into the container the child had brought, keeping with the “Witch” persona. Christmas was another of her favorite holidays to decorate her home, with warm invitation.
Sally was a Wheel of Fortune fan and was an avid reader. She often received compliments to her annual “newsy” Christmas letter that she should have been a writer, which was a secret desire, in her youth, to pursue.
Yellow was her favorite flower color, as it represented friendship. She enjoyed the peacefulness of living in Idaho; taking in the beauty of the countryside, the many area lakes, seasonal color changes, and watching and identifying birds. She regretted that in exchange for the peaceful living, she missed out on being near to family friends, her children, and grandchildren living in California.
In addition to her husband Fred, in Post Falls, she is survived and dearly missed by daughter Debbie and son-in-law Ed; son Ron and daughter-in-law Mary and grandsons Tanner and Cameron; and daughter Sandy all in southern California.
