Dorothy Webb, 81

| April 2, 2013 12:47 PM

Surrounded by family and friends, Dorothy was welcomed home by our Lord on March 30, 2013. She was finally reunited with the love of her life, Sam; her daughter, Cydne; and her grandson, Kyle.

Dorothy was born Aug. 18, 1931, to William and Florence Peterson in Colville, Wash. In 1947 she moved to Coeur d’Alene, attending and graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1950, where she made many lifelong friends.

After graduation she married her first husband. That marriage ended in divorce in 1961, but during that union, she had three children. Jody was born in 1952, Randy in 1953 and Cydne in 1956. Cydne passed away after a prolonged illness in 1995.

In 1966, she graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Lewiston, thus beginning a career she seemed born to do. She began her nursing career at Sacred Heart Hospital and Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.

Before her career began she met the absolute love of her life, Sam. The two finally wed in 1973. Soon after she joined the staff at Kootenai Medical Center, where she worked until her retirement in 1996.

Together with Sam, they enjoyed life boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Their parties and barbecues from their float house at the Yacht Club were legendary.

Sadly it came to an end when Sam was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, passing away in 1999.

Honest to a fault, you never wanted to ask her opinion unless you were ready for the truth, blunt and to the point, but never cruel.

Frugal but generous, she was quick to help anyone before they asked, or purchasing items just because “they reminder her of you.”

Dorothy loved going to the casino, but always on a “pre-set” amount and not a penny more.

She could never pass by the latest Ann Rule book, or play scrabble with anyone she could rope, or spend days working on a new jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes just curling up to watch Dr. Zhivago (again).

She loved meeting new people, while giving her un-divided attention to anyone she talked to.

Her love of chocolate approched addiction. She had a unique ability to accept hard times, or lose with acceptance, grace and dignity, a quality she passed on to her children.

She was survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and John Miranda of Hayden; her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Connie Kirk of Coeur d’Alene; sister Lois Yeager of Happy Camp, Calif.; grandchildren, Tyler Pratt, Nicole Welsford, Chris Kirk and Casey Kirk; three great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren. Also step-sons Greg, Mike, John, Steve and Mark Webb.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Visit Dorothy’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
