Roy Eugene Hartford, 77

Roy Eugene Hartford, 77, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Roy went to be with the Lord on Sept. 15, 2012. Roy was born March 14, 1935, in Cut Bank, Mont. He was the youngest of six children born to Lewis and Minnie Hartford.

Roy graduated from Cut Bank High School in 1954, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years in Germany as a specialist in the Military Police. He married Karen O’Leyar in 1956 and together they had five children, Dr. Jeff Hartford of Boise, Julie (Mike) Brunette of Panama City, Fla., Joel Paul Hartford (preceded him in death in 1983), Jason (Chris) Hartford of Granite Bay, Calif., and John (Teresa) Hartford of Bellevue, Wash.

After Karen passed away in 1972 Roy moved to Tacoma, Wash. He then married Gerri Thomas on May 31, 1978. He was stepdad to Trudi and (Mark) Kuhn of Post Falls, Terri and (Rick) Terwall of Canyon Country, Calif., and Randy Thomas of San Diego, Calif. He was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother, Glenn Hartford of San Antonio, Texas.

Roy worked for a number of years as an accountant and retired to Post Falls in 2003. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed watching his sons play sports. He and Gerri retired to Post Falls in 2003. He was known for his great sense of humor and loyal friendships and as someone that you could always rely on! Roy and Gerri enjoyed traveling and many adventures during their retirement and throughout their 35 years of marriage. His faithful Christian Walk with Gerri was a wonderful example to all that knew him, especially his family. We know that he will always, “Love us big” as he would say.
