Alice (Kindig) Alton, 97

| September 18, 2012 9:00 PM

Alice Alton, 97, beloved mother, grandmother, surrogate mother and grandmother passed away in the wee hours of the morning Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Ivy Court in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Secor, Ill., to Warren and Grace Thompson.

Alice married Carl Kindig in 1936, lived the hard life of a farm wife in central Illinois until his death in 1959. They had two children, Charles and Kay. In 1969 Alice married George Alton and they enjoyed many years of meandering around the Midwest. A trip of three hours could easily take eight hours because of their need to explore roads they had never been on before.

Following the death of George in 1987 Alice moved to Coeur d’Alene to be near Kay. Her son Charles preceded his mother in death but left Alice with two devoted granddaughters, Tara Kindig Griffin (grandson-in-law John) of Grayslake, Ill., Estelle Kindig Brown (and grandson-in-law Paul) of Bloomington, Ill.; and a loving daughter-in-law, Karen of Bloomington.

Over the span of many years Alice became “Mother Alice” to many friends of Charles and Kay. Her loving, sweet disposition will long be remembered by many. The devotion of these friends has been a blessing to Alice and her family.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Ivy Court Nursing Home, where Alice spent her declining few years. Their warmth, love and devotion to their residents and work truly made this journey bearable for the family.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden, in the “Gathering” downstairs area. All who knew her or knew of her are invited to come and remember what a wonderful addition she was to this world in which we live.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice, your local Humane Society or take 20 pounds of dog food to your local shelter, she so loved all of her pooches.

Please visit Alice’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
