CHALLENGE: Be patient, people
I read “Challenged completed,” the story of Nick Maniscalco walking 365 miles in 365 days after surviving a traumatic brain injury in 2008, in Saturday’s Press and a heart-warming story it was.
What was not so heart warming was a rude comment I heard made to Nick as he made his way across the intersection of Prairie and Government Way last Sunday (Aug. 2) afternoon.
I was fueling up my pickup at the Tesoro there and happened to notice Nick making his way across the intersection. Naturally it took him some time to make his way through the crosswalk, a few green lights for traffic traveling on Government Way. Most everyone there waited patiently for him to cross.
When he did finally make it across the intersection, I heard someone yell from their vehicle, “It’s about f***ing time!” My back was turned away from the traffic facing the gas pump when I heard the comment that was yelled to him. I wish I could have seen the vehicle that comment came from so I could give a good vehicle description of the vehicle in this story.
So if you happen to see this man trying to make his way across a busy intersection, don’t yell rude comments to him because he held you up through a green light; just be glad he can even walk at all. I lost a brother to a traumatic brain injury when he was 19, so I can be sympathetic to Nick’s cause.
Great job Nick!
