PAVING: Why plant doesn't fit

| September 7, 2012 10:31 PM

This is a plea to the people to try to save our children, homes and community. Coeur d’Alene Paving has petitioned to build a new asphalt plant on Seltice Road by State Line. This is a big issue due to where they plan to build the new plant.

This new asphalt plant will be located near the State Line Raceway where many families go as a form of entertainment, and also the Woodbridge Housing Development. The soccer field located in the Woodbridge Development is used by Parks and Rec for their soccer games and practices, and is also used by Post Falls High School for their practices as well. Hundreds of families are located within just eye distance of this not to mention all of the innocent bystanders who will be impacted by it.

The plant will be running 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., six days a week including holidays. The wind will carry the carcinogens produced by this plant through Post Falls and would reach the Frederick Post Kindergarten, West Ridge Elementary, Seltice Elementary, as well as River City Middle School. The kinds of toxins released by asphalt plants has been known to cause multiple forms of cancer as well as many types of respiratory problems, and skin diseases.

There will be a hearing on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. in the KC Administration Building, 451 Government Way, Coeur d’Alene. Parking will be available in the south parking lot. Think of your family.
