Jason Jaeger named Idaho

Travel Council chairman

Jason Jaeger, director of sales and marketing at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, has been named chairman of the Idaho Travel Council. Paul Norton, general manager of Silverwood, replaces Jaeger at vice chair.

The eight-member advisory board, appointed by Idaho's governor, coordinates efforts to bring more new visitors to the state.

"Idaho has become a very desirable travel destination," Jaeger said. "This state has some incredible experiences to offer."

Jaeger has a degree in hotel and restaurant administration from Washington State University and a master of business administration from the University of Arizona. He spent time with the Hilton group of hotels before joining The Coeur d'Alene Resort in 1999.

He also serves as vice chair on the Coeur d'Alene Convention and Visitor's Bureau board.

His father, Jerry Jaeger, was the first state chairman when the ITC was formed 30 years ago.

Mortgage lenders hit six-year high in overall customer satisfaction

Overall customer satisfaction with mortgage lenders has reached its highest level in the past six years, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 U.S. Primary Mortgage Origination Satisfaction StudySM released Thursday.

For a second consecutive year, overall customer satisfaction has increased to 761 (on a 1,000-point scale) in 2012 from 747 in 2011 and 734 in 2010.

This increase in customer satisfaction is driven by steady improvements related to transparency and communication. The study finds that during the past three years, lenders have improved in the areas of clearly explaining loan options and ensuring customers understand them; following up with customers in a timely manner after they complete their application; and proactively updating customers on the status of their application.

Southeastern Idaho coin dealer indicted on fraud charges

IDAHO FALLS (AP) - An eastern Idaho coin dealer who prosecutors say lured $4 million from investors has been indicted on federal fraud charges.

Gene Hinsley of Idaho Falls was indicted Wednesday on 10 felony counts including wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.

Assistant U.S. attorney George Breitsameter said in U.S. District Court filings that more than 100 investors lost up to $2 million.

According to the 21-page indictment, Hinsley offered investors low- and no-risk opportunities to invest in silver.

Instead, Hinsley used money from unsuspecting clients of his Galaxy Coin business to pay off earlier investors - and cover personal and business expenses.

What's more, since Hinsley kept such incomplete records, prosecutors say the exact amount he may have defrauded investors isn't known.

Hinsley didn't return a call seeking comment.
