MUSICAL: One word review: Wow

| November 14, 2012 8:00 PM

Friday evening I was able to attend Spokane’s University High School’s production of “Les Miserables.” I was amazed that this was a high school production. It was comparable to the Broadway performance of “Les Miz.” It blew me away. What professional sounding voices the performers have, and so many talented students! The costuming and set construction were likewise amazing, with a circular rotating section in the center of the stage.

At first I thought it was recorded music, and then realized they had a live orchestra in an orchestra pit! Briane Green, the drama teacher and director, and her husband George Green (who is the Executive Artistic Director of Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene and who did the set design and was the technical director) put so much work and effort into this production, as did all those who worked on the play and performed in it. It was one of those “Wow!” experiences.
