LABELS: They're conversation killers

| November 14, 2012 8:00 PM

During the recent local campaign, I had the opportunity to speak face to face with Cheryl Stransky, a Democrat candidate for state office. As a Christo-centric, conservative-minded person who happens to be a registered Republican, I responded to candidate Stransky with courtesy, dignity and respect. I thought the exchange went well.

While reading candidate Stransky’s comments about the campaign in the front page article of the Nov. 10 issue of The Press, I was surprised when I read that she assumed people who are easy to talk to are moderates. My political views are not moderate.

I find it disappointing that candidate Stransky also found it necessary to label some members of the Republican Party “crazy.” And then, several lines later in the article, Stransky claimed that members of the Republican Party are responsible for labeling her. We cannot come together when candidates continue to insult others who have different ideas.

There are Republicans who are available for an exchange of ideas for the purpose, not of promoting party politics, but of promoting what is best for our county and our state. An exchange, or a newspaper article, that includes name calling and insults cannot have any expectation of success.
