RECALL: Too much for a parking lot

| May 30, 2012 9:15 PM

I signed the recall. Yet, there are those who malign me for exercising my right as a voter. I haven’t worked full time in six years in this town. Yet, almost 20 city officials get paid more than $100K annually. And they want to spend millions on a parking garage, during a recession no less.

And to those who tout the library and Kroc Center as achievements, let’s be honest. While the library is beautiful, it was built in a dumb place. It’s not convenient for most residents in this town. I’ve had a membership at Kroc but rarely use it, therefore I’m canceling it.

The elitists are too busy patting themselves on the back to notice the “little people” shake our heads and roll our eyes at their excesses. Their plans to destroy McEuen Field is just the last straw.

It’s ironic that we all grew up listening to Joni Mitchell sing Big Yellow Taxi, with the lyrics “They paved Paradise to put up a parking lot.” The mayor and City Council haven’t answered the letter sent February 2011 by Coeur d’Alene American Legion Baseball asking if they will honor their public pledge to replace the ball fields with a facility greater or equal to, as they are legally obligated to do per the “Trust.” John McEuen is probably rolling over in his grave right about now.
