MOOSE: Reader critical of story

| May 30, 2012 9:15 PM

I was very disappointed in your story about the accident involving a 14-year-old driver and a moose. This was not the fault of the 14-year-old. This same thing happened a couple years ago to a man in his late 40s and he died in the accident.

At speeds of 70 mph on an interstate that goes through a wildlife area, this type of thing is sure to happen to anyone. I am sorry that it happened to this young man, but it was an accident.

The comments of other people on cdapress.com were very negative and unthoughtful to the suffering this family must be feeling right now. No matter what the driver’s age, this type of thing happens, and is a tragedy. This boy did what any driver would have done, he swerved to avoid the moose, but at highway speeds, the crash was unavoidable.

I don’t know what the writer’s agenda was, but making this boy feel guilty about driving at 14, especially with his family being hurt by this moose is a tragedy too. I don’t have respect for your writer, or the editor that allows for a story that has this type of agenda without a real cause.
