Olive I. Nelson, 90
Olive I. Nelson went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on May 19, 2012. She was born Feb. 19, 1922m and grew up in Sanish, N.D.
She was preceded by her parents and only sister; her husband of 52 years, Lynn A. Nelson; two daughters, Linda Nelson and Nadyne Bertholf; and eldest son, Ken Nelson.
Olive is survived by her eldest daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Pat Marifjeren of Anchorage, Alaska; her youngest son, Kerry Nelson of Hayden; grandchildren, Tomi-Ann and Steve Pintler of Spokane, Jason Baxter, Lisa Baxter and Maria Baxter, also of Spokane, with Scott and Jennifer Nelson of Seattle; and numerous great-grandchildren.
As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a very huge heart. Taking her boys and their friends to Spokane Indian baseball games, and helping the coach of the Coeur d’Alene Babe Ruth baseball team, Bob Ely transport the team players which her eldest son Ken Nelson played on. To their away games throughout the area, in the good old days of the 1960s.
Then taking her grandchildren on road trips to historical sites and places throughout Montana, Idaho and Washington through which they would say the good old days of the 1970s and ’80s.
After her children and grandchildren were grown and out of the nest, Olive went to work for the Panhandle Health District and served as a Senior Companion for the next 20 years before retiring in 2009.
Olive thoroughly enjoyed meeting and assisting our communities seniors who could no longer do, that which they use to. In keeping with the Mission of Panhandle Health which provides a much needed function within Kootenai County. In 2004 she received the Presidents call to Service Award.
During her empty nest days and retiring in 2009 she was able to travel extensively with her eldest daughter, Laurel Marifjeren, throughout Europe and subsequent trips to Europe and around the United States with her good friend, Marcia Kirsch.
Our mother played the major role introducing her children and grandchildren to her Lord, Jesus Christ, and to her we are all so greatly, thankful.
For we do not know the day or hour when our Lord Jesus will say, “It’s time to come home.” These are the thoughts and memories that my Lord Jesus wanted you to know about our mother. A lady that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A life that was full.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Please visit Olive’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatefuneralhomes.com.
