RECALL: Make everyone happy
Hopefully this politically motivated recall petition will not succeed in fulfilling its quota of registered voters and Sandi, Mike, Woody and Deanna can put this behind them and continue their good work serving this community and its grateful citizens. I would urge those of you that truly enjoy living here and appreciate the Kroc Center, library, Fourth Street at mid-town and education corridor to “decline to sign.” Then you can add a new baseball park on 15th Street at Cherry Hill Park, hopefully a boat launch with plenty of parking near the Beach House and a people friendly downtown park that gives greater access to the lake for everyone.
In the interest of unity and serving the entire community, the council may be persuaded to take on the project of securing a relatively underdeveloped piece of Coeur d’Alene real estate and declare it a “tax-free-zone.” (I foresee a 6-0 vote on this one.) It would never be developed or maintained. The CAVE (citizens against virtually everything) people could find solace here. It could be called “The Land of Orzell” or “Sims Field” but no signs would be erected because that would take tax dollars, however, the users have had extensive sign making experience so that shouldn’t be an issue. It definitely would not be located within the LCDC boundary and I am quite certain there would be no demands made to seek an advisory vote of the people. Oh, just one stipulation, the rest of Coeur d’Alene would be declared an “orzell-free-zone.”
Joking aside, before you sign a recall petition, please explore the facts of what the Kroc Center, library, Fourth Street at midtown and the education corridor, all existing projects, have actually cost you personally and weigh that against the advantages these projects have been to you and the community. We would not have any of these amenities if not for the due diligence of the mayor and councilmembers named in the recall effort. Keep Coeur d’Alene moving in the direction that makes it a great place, forward, not backward.
