Gail L. Berg, 79

| May 12, 2012 9:00 PM

Gail L. Berg passed away on April 25, 2012. She was living at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom Reimers, at the time of her passing.

Gail was born May 8, 1932, in North Dakota.

Gail raised two children, Susan and Jess, during her first 40 years in Southern California.

Gail also went to college and became a teacher at Lynwood High School in California during the 1960s.

Gail loved hosting and participating in many family gatherings during these years. She cherished her family and extended family, including the Werdells, the Haarsagers and the Comp-tons. Gail maintained a great relationship with her brother, Paul Werdell, over the years, even though they lived on separate coasts.

Gail also fondly recalled her time as a child on the family farm in North Dakota — remembering many great experiences with cousins, including Gene, Charles and Cheryl, as well as aunts and uncles who made up the Hartman family.

She and her husband, Will Berg, moved to their ranch in Careywood in 1974, remaining there until her health required her to be closer to family in 2011.

Gail spoke often about her first 40 years in Southern California and her second 40 years in North Idaho. Once in Idaho, she put her home economics skills to use in running a cannery and helping people with energy assistance in addition to maintaining life on the ranch. She loved her serene life on her hilltop home.

Gail felt enriched by many of the dear friends she had made. She met Rosalee Brooks while working together and they became lifelong friends. She developed a dear friend in Gloria Collie as they worked together at the energy assistance program for many years, while they grew as sisters in Christ. She had so many friends through her “Sew n Sew” group; “STOPS,” her investors club; and so many wonderful Careywood neighbors, including Tess Hahn, Janet Benoit and the Kellogg family, just to name a few.

And the dearest friendship has been with the Lord Jesus, who she talked and prayed with daily. Her faith gave her the courage to face death with a peace of mind. And now Gail is without pain or suffering, enjoying heaven with Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Berg; and her parents, John and Anna Mae Werdell.

She is survived by her brother, Paul J. (Diane) Werdell; her daughter, Susan A. (Tom) Reimers; and her son, Jesse Watson. She also is survived by three Reimers’ grandsons, Wes (Julia), David and Tucker; a granddaughter, Angela Watson; great-granddaughters, Sophia, Apryl and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Laney; her stepchildren, including Chuck Berg, Terry (Randi) Berg and Roxanne Berg-Metivier (Todd); and four grandchildren, Terah Malsam, Heidi Rushforth, and Ashley and Cale McDonald.
