SPENCER: He's for property rights
I see Larry Spencer has raised a huge political war chest, with many donors living out of state. Why would so many people send him large donations? I did some checking, and it appears that almost every single one of those out of state donors is a property owner in Kootenai County, or is associated with one. After I thought about it, I came to the realization that the real question is this. Why would landowners, especially lakefront property owners, be so upset they send thousand dollar checks to his campaign? Perhaps the answer has something to do with Todd Tondee and Dan Green’s proposed new land use codes currently being written. Perhaps the concerns of the Cd’A lake property owners association are justified. After reading their eight page position letter (it is on their website), I would also be worried if I owned land that the county planning department will have control of. Maybe, just maybe, the people who are paying attention have figured out that if the incumbents are left in office, property rights will be a fond memory for those of us in this county. And perhaps we should be thanking those same people for helping Spencer to raise the awareness of the impending loss of property rights while we can still do something about it, like change the commissioners.
