EBERLEIN: Has most conviction
I’m a lifelong Kootenai County resident. I recently attended a candidate forum at the Greyhound Park to assess the candidates and what they stood for. I’m interested in candidates who have conviction; who tell me who they are and what they stand for, and then conduct themselves accordingly. I don’t want a candidate who puts his finger to the wind to see which way he should vote.
When Marc Eberlein approached the podium and spoke, I was impressed. I finally found a candidate I could support. I disagree with current commissioners on the issue of appointing a board to oversee property evaluations. I think the county commissioners should have to listen to disgruntled taxpayers instead of insulating themselves with a BOE. I disagree with appointing officials that are currently elected. I want as many county employees accountable to voters as possible. I want oversight on the rest. I think it’s disgusting that a deputy county clerk was able to embezzle $139,000 over a 10-year period, and the only reason she got caught was because the department was audited after an election. The county and elected officials should have taken a lot more blame. At a time when everyone is struggling, the idea of a new justice building and a parking garage is an insult to overburdened taxpayers. From what I’ve seen, Marc is the best candidate for the job, I like his message. I like it a lot. I’ve never donated to an individual political campaign before, until now.
