SCOUT: Hard lesson in gov't
Recently my son, who is in the scouting program, proposed a service project for the city of Post Falls for his Eagle Scout award. He proposed to build and donate benches for the Citylink bus stops in the Post Falls area.
After talking with the city he was told that the benches he was offering weren’t good enough. Because of regulations imposed by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the benches had to meet certain specifications.
It costs nearly $3,000 to install a single bench in order to comply with regulations. Because of “overkill” rules like this, the city can only afford to install a handful of benches. So, thanks to an agency that is supposed to help the disabled, they are actually responsible for causing the elderly and handicapped to stand while they wait for a bus.
