Resource fair for laid-off Lucky Friday workers
Workers laid off because of the closure of the Lucky Friday mine can meet with community resource representatives and employers during a resource fair Friday at the Idaho Department of Labor office in Kellogg.
The fair will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Silver Valley Labor office, 35 Wildcat Way, Suite A.
"These agencies are here to help the workers and their families who have been hit by the mine closure," Idaho Department of Labor Silver Valley Office Manager Sara Lamson said. "When a major employer is unexpectedly shut down like the Lucky Friday was, that's the time for the community to come together. That continues this Friday."
The closure, prompted by concerns over safety after a fatal accident last year, could reduce income in the Silver Valley by more than $25 million if it lasts for a year.
Department of Labor consultants can determine eligibility for special training programs and help people with their job and career searches, interviewing skills and resume development.
Fair participants include representatives from Hecla Mining Co., Avista Utilities, Coeur d'Alene Mines, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, the Community Action Partnership, Community Access Payee Services ACES Community Services and the Department of Labor.
Additional information on the resource fair is available by calling Lamson at 783-1202 ext. 3553.
