ULTRASOUND: Look closely, independents

| March 21, 2012 10:00 PM

Any of you leaning GOP look at what happened in Boise Friday. Anxious to get a five-hour head-start on their weekend, lawmakers opted to delay voting whether women should be forced to undergo ultrasounds in Idaho if they are considering abortion, promising to get right back to the issue next week. In this same session Friday, GOP opposition to a program that would go toward helping Idaho’s challenged youth was denied any further debate because it could put this same body “on the hook” for additional funding.

In context, Idaho lawmakers don’t work full work-weeks yet get paid as if they do. You and I have to work 2-3 jobs to make our ends meet. The government in Idaho, yes, the Government!, wants not only to interfere between you and your doctor, these Idaho government people will demand and force American citizens to undergo and pay for medical tests they may or may not want. Then to top it off, the GOP, who willingly invades privacy and makes unconstitutional demands on American citizens when the results of their policies need help, sorry, American children: “Can’t be on the hook for you, kids.”

As a proud longtime FORMER Republican, I am beyond horrified at what was once a dignified political representation of American democracy. My own eyes were opened wide during the latter Bush/Cheney years but what we see here in Idaho and other states clearly shows a group of legislators so deeply calloused it amazes me they can sleep at night with what they do.
