SCHOOLS: Nobody is being forced
In response to “Schools: Don’t use kids as tool” letter on March 14. Thank God for freedom of choice. Exploitation involves someone forcing another person to do something against their will.
The many PTAs in Cd’A work hard to generate money for our schools. These volunteer groups made up of 5-10 parents try to come up with new ideas each year of ways to pay for projects for their schools, taking into consideration the needs of the teachers and school. Generally, the attendance to these monthly meetings is very low with fewer than 10 parents.
My suggestion to any parent is to get involved by going to meetings and asking questions. If there’s something you don’t like, you can offer up other ideas.
No child or family is forced to be involved in fundraising. When you choose to not be involved, don’t throw ridiculous accusations at those people who work hard to help bring in money to the schools. What our schools need most is support, involvement and understanding on how the system works.
It amazes me that people continue to expect something for nothing.
