Margaret (Peggy) S. Hendricks, 88
Feb. 10, 1921 - March 7, 2012
Peggy Hendricks joined her husband, Perry, in the presence of Jesus Christ early Wednesday morning March 7, 2012, at Coeur d’Alene Homes after a brief final illness.
Peggy was born Feb. 10, 1921, Margaret Jane Siggins in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and grew up on her family farm. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1943 with a B.S. in foods and nutrition and became a registered dietition after further coursework at the University of Minnesota. She worked in Greeley, Colo., before meeting Perry during a summer job at the Latchstring Inn in Spearfish, S.D. They married in 1950, moved to Colorado for 18 years, then on to Puyallup, Tacoma and Issaquah, Wash. After Perry’s retirement, they served their Lord on the mission field in Nepal, Bangladesh and Kenya. Following Perry’s homegoing in 2004, Peggy moved to Coeur d’Alene.
Peggy is survived by their three children, Anne (and Bob) Bohac of Coeur d’Alene, Chuck (and Becky) Hendricks of Dallas, Texas, and Susie Lynch of Puyallup; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and her brother, Kenneth Siggins of Lisbon, Iowa.
Peggy helped support the family with her cake decorating skills in Denver, Colo., and in later years started a calligraphy note card business from which she sent profits year after year to the women of Kibera, a slum outside Nairobi, Kenya. Until her final days, Peggy continued reaching out to help those living near her in whatever way she could. She loved the Lord and she loved the people He brought into her life.
Memorials may be sent to Coeur d’Alene Homes, 624 W. Harrison, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 or Hospice of North Idaho.
