EASTON: Please rethink decision
To Tim McCandless: As you are aware, Inland Northwest Council had decided to move forward on undertaking a land exchange purchase agreement with Discovery Land Inc.
I believe you have ignored the public requests to not move Camp Easton to the Sun Up Bay property. All the reason proposed in favor of relocating could have been refocused on the many attributes possible for the current site at Gotham Bay. The public forums and surveys were all directed in favor of the Sun Up Bay location. Over and over it clearly shows that your minds have been made up on the direction the council has wanted to follow.
The financial benefit seems to be reason the council wants to make this transaction. This far into the plan you would already be experiencing a drop in donations. I am an adult leader with two boys, second generation, who are active in a Coeur d’Alene Boy Scout troop. The troops in Idaho feel like we are the minority on being represented on the council.
If your plan was approached differently toward funding and rebuilding Camp Easton specifically, I believe your support would have been received differently. We can still choose where we donate our money and where we send our boys to camp. If you want to regain our trust and diligent support of time and money, we are asking that you be responsible to the scouting community and rethink your decision. Honor Camp Easton’s history and its intent set forth over the years.
