New boat launch built at Killarney Lake

COEUR d'ALENE - Mild winter conditions and low lake levels have finally allowed construction of a new boat ramp at the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM's) Killarney Lake Recreation Site.

The boat launch is located on the northwest section of Killarney Lake, about 20 miles east of Coeur d'Alene.

The project, funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), was originally slated for the winter of 2010; however, high lake levels over the past several years prevented the work from occurring, the BLM announced Wednesday in a press release.

The new slab-type concrete ramp, poured in late January, replaces a dated plank-type ramp. Other improvements at the Killarney site and nearby Popcorn Island funded through ARRA include floating restroom facilities and installation of docks that meet full accessibility standards.

The Killarney Lake Recreation Site is open year-round and is a popular launch site for fisherman.
