IRONMAN: Beyond all expectations

| June 29, 2012 9:00 PM

Thank you to the community of Coeur d’Alene! As a first-time Ironman participant I didn’t really know what to expect going into the race. But the experience was better than I ever could have imagined.

From the time we arrived in Coeur d’Alene, I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness and support I’ve felt from complete strangers — from the next-door neighbors at our rental house, to the grocery clerk, to every volunteer, to all the spectators cheering all along the course and the other athletes. I felt surrounded by love and support while pushing myself to do the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

We didn’t have a huge support system at the race (just a few friends were able to make it to cheer us on), so the support I felt all along the course and throughout the days leading up to the race was amazing! This has been an unforgettable experience that ranks up there with the best of my life, and I attribute much of that to the support this community shows toward the Ironman event and the way we athletes are treated. Thank you Coeur d’Alene!
