TRUCK: Old, but far from useless

In reading the article last Friday about the Northern Lakes truck giveaway, I question this reasoning. We have many fire districts in the area that have old, worn out equipment, or not enough equipment at all. This vehicle is not worn out — it has 28,000 miles on it, and has no mechanical issues listed in the item description on their website. The only issues are water pump related and a few minor equipment upgrades.

It would seem more beneficial to the community to repair this vehicle and put it back into service. I am sure there are business services as well as my own that would volunteer their services for this cause.

Even though this vehicle is 30 years old and some would question the reliability of it, I would argue the point. As an auto restoration and fabrication expert for more than 30 years, I would trust this vehicle over any late model electronic controlled one any day.
