SECURITY: Feds, pay the fund back

| June 22, 2012 9:00 PM

All politicians running for all offices say we must do something about Social Security and Medicare. We have already done something about them. In 1955 when Dwight Eisenhower was president of the United States of America the Republican Party borrowed $6 billion from Social Security (a note was borrowed). This happened several times and when Lyndon B. Johnson was president he put the remaining $6 billion from the fund into the general fund. The total amount was about $23 billion. None of these funds were paid back to Social Security. If the total $23 billion was put into savings for more than 50 years, what would be in the fund now and how much of an increase would be in our monthly checks today?

If you politicians want to do something about Social Security and Medicare, put the $23 billion plus interest back in the fund and leave it alone.

Simple math says that savings should double every eight years. Think of these funds doubling six times in 50 years. Social Security was never meant to be loaned. It was meant to help older people exist when they are 65 or older.

Another note: Look at the history of Social Security and see which party borrowed from these funds and never paid them back.
