CRONYISM: Let open market rule

| June 22, 2012 9:00 PM

A vote taken last week to start phasing out sugar subsidies for a small number of producers in this country failed by a few votes. Because of this “crony favoritism,” consumers in this country pay 50 percent more for sugar and it costs us three jobs for every job it protects. Sixteen Republicans voted to continue this boondoggle, including both Crapo and Risch!

It’s frustrating to hear these elected officials talk about cutting spending and government intrusion and then to protect the sugar beet folks in southern Idaho vote against principle.

Let these senators know your disgust with their lack of adherence to open markets that cost consumers and taxpayers.
